Summertime Blues and the Bluefish Salad Sandwich!

Monahan's Seafood Market | Fresh Whole Fish, Fillets, Shellfish, Recipes, Catering & Lunch Counter-Ann Arbor, Michigan

Ah yes, it’s late July in Ann Arbor. The students are gone (for the most part), art fair is over; it’s peaceful, quiet and unlike last summer, very lush and green. Our farmers market is overflowing with its bounty. Today we bought some corn, tomatoes, peaches, blueberries, fat juicy garlic and cherries. As I sit here sucking on a sweet peach I’m thinking about what to take down to the river for a kayak picnic with Lisa. Something portable and easy to eat in a very small boat. A loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and thou!

Some fresh Rhode Island bluefish baked with thyme and garlic then made into a salad with capers, kalamata olives, Spanish pimentos, a couple of Ortiz anchovies and the makings for an amazing sandwich are taking shape! A bed of romaine or leaf lettuce, some thick slices of local tomatoes, some sliced cukes maybe a slap of mayo on the bread with a dash of Tabasco. A meal in itself!bluefish salad sandwich

This salad can be made with almost any cold fish (perfect for leftovers!) Click here for recipe.

We’ve got a big catch of bluefish coming in this weekend along with Alaskan king salmon, sockeye salmon and some small Georges Bank haddock. Buy a little extra and plan on the best leftovers ever!

P.S. We offer Café Japon baguettes every Saturday (just soft enough for a perfect sandwich)
